You can also visit us on your way home from PEI, Halifax, Cape Breton and Newfoundland. Visit the Digby Wharf and boardwalks where you can watch the fishing boats coming home with their catch of Digby scallops, Haddock, and of course Lobster. We must not forget the local Atlantic Salmon farm right here in the harbour and all the local fresh clams dug up around the local beaches. We at the Admiral Inn serve fresh seafood in our Diamond rated restaurant looking out over the Digby Harbour and the Bay of Fundy. Close by there is our local Lighthouse which is Point Prim with it’s views over the Bay of Fundy where you can watch seals and all kinds of seabirds, You can even watch the Princess of Acadia coming from and leaving for the Port of Saint John New Brunswick. Here in Digby you can go to the Admiral Digby museum and learn about your genealogy, local shipbuilding and fishing techniques from years ago. Walk along the seafront and watch the ever changing tides of the Bay of Fundy. When you come to the area you must take a drive to the Digby neck , long island and Brier island. Here you can marvel at the wild beauty that takes you back fifty years with the unchanging scenery and it‘s people. The beauty of nature with the whale watching, bird watching and hiking trails, rocky basalt cliffs ,volcanic lakes and lighthouses. You can go shell and rock finding on the local beaches and harbours. One of the good hikes is to the balancing rock where a piece of basalt is just balanced on the edge of another rock. Take in the abundance of wild roses that grow on these islands. To get from the Digby neck to the first island you have to take a five minute ferry ride which is an adventure and one that you must do as it is all part of the experience of visiting these islands. You do not have to go to the Mediterranean to have an adventure you have one in your own back yard! After the islands you can come across the marsh road, this is one of our favourite spots. Here you can take in farm life as it was years ago with cattle grazing on uncut pasture just wandering around the beautiful meadows and watch the changing tides and the wildlife. From here you can travel down to the Acadian shores with it’s music and art, famous churches and sandy beaches or you can head west to the village of Bear River with it’s numerous vineyards. There are wine tasting tours at the Annapolis vineyard and the Bear river vineyard. The village of Bear river is built on stilts above the estuary of Bear river where you can also see the changing tides of the Bay of Fundy. Here you can buy local art and crafts in the Flight of fancy store. In Bear river there is also the Bear River First Nation village and reserve which is definitely worth a visit. From Bear river you can either go to Kejimkujik National Park where you can camp, canoe, hike, fish and take in the natural beauty or you can drive to Annapolis Royal and Port Royal , two heritage forts with history of the loyalists and the Acadians of the area. Annapolis Royal has historic gardens and a local venders market. An important part of Annapolis Royal is the Tidal power generating station where you can take a tour showing how the power is made from the tides. Close to Annapolis Royal is the Upper Clements theme Park which is a great place for everyone to spend a day. After Annapolis Royal and Port Royal head up the Annapolis valley to Wolfville and Grand Pre and the mudflat's of the Windsor area where you can go river rafting. Then head towards the colourful city of Halifax, Peggy’s cove, Cape Breton or PEI. Enjoy your Nova
